Tuika's Polynesian Island Magic - Interface Redesign
Comments:

This interface design as well as the design for Kalena's Polynesian 'Ohana was inspired solely on the greatness of the photos that was given to me. The design is actually a redesign of their existing website.

When coming up with the preliminary designs, I wasn't sure what kind of design path or color scheme to use. Their previous site was made from a template, which really doesn't do any justice to any entertainment group. So what I did was just use the information and images that they currently had and built around it; I even kept somewhat of the same color scheme. I was provided great photos to use, which made it easy to get inspired and create an eye-catching design. Also, a Polynesian site isn't the same without an image of the ocean--my stock photo of Hawaii came in handy.

One of the differences that I used in this interface that stands out from the others is the way I portrayed their contact information. Originally, all of the contact information was kept at the bottom of the page beneath the overall design, but the owners thought that it should be much larger and easier for the viewer to catch. I agreed, but I really didn't want to just insert it as a text link. It would have made the design too "HTML." So, what I did was create an image of a post-it note and put the contact information on that. I always write messages that were important on post-it notes and put it right next to the computer. That way I would always see it and never forget. Hopefully, that's how the viewer will see the post-it note as well. Click to see how the design looks.
